Front
Identify the Independent Variable
Back
To recognize or establish the identity of someone or something. From Latin idem meaning “the same,” via Late Latin identificare (“to make identical”), related to identitas (“identity”).
Front
Identify the Dependent Variable
Back
To recognize or establish the identity of someone or something. From Latin idem meaning “the same,” via Late Latin identificare (“to make identical”), related to identitas (“identity”).
Front
Positive vs. Negative Control
Back
**Positive Control:** A group that receives treatment with a known result to confirm the experiment works (e.g., a known enzyme activator). **Negative Control:** A group with no treatment or a placebo to establish a baseline (e.g., denatured enzyme).
Front
Michaelis-Menten Kinetics: Vmax
Back
The maximum rate of an enzymatic reaction (Vmax) occurs when the enzyme is saturated with substrate. Increasing substrate further will not increase the rate. Formula: Vmax = k2[E]total.
Front
Michaelis-Menten Kinetics: Km
Back
The Michaelis constant (Km) is the substrate concentration at which the reaction rate is half of Vmax. A low Km indicates high affinity between enzyme and substrate (requires less substrate to reach 1/2 Vmax).
